Olivia’s 5th birthday today.  Wow – what a milestone!  Back in April, we didn’t know if she would be here for her 5th birthday.  Here she is – happy, healthy and strong!  We just hope and pray that she remains that way.

To say that Olivia has been so excited about her birthday is an understatement.  It is all we have heard about for months.  She is now also making plans for her 6th birthday!  It’s fantastic!

Olivia was spoilt with lots of presents again but she loved every minute of it.  In the afternoon, we picked up her friend, Jessica, and we all three girls to the pool.  We went to CISAC in Belconnen and the girls wanted to go on the waterslide.  It was a very hot day and when we arrived, it appeared that all of Belconnen was there.  The pool was jam packed!  This didn’t really appeal to me and even less appealing was when they evacuated the kiddy pool because a polly waffle was discovered.  Yes, some irresponsible parent couldn’t be bothered putting a swimming nappy on their child!  We hadn’t even entered the pool and it was evacuated.  We were told that it would be about another 45 minutes before it would be reopened.  However, strangely enough the adjoining pool remained open – yes, the water in that pool was shared with the kiddy pool.  The only thing separating the two pools was a lane rope.  In the meantime, there were kids hanging off the rope watching the life guards trying to scoop up the elusive polly waffle only metres away, naively thinking that they were somehow protected by the lane rope. Disgusting!  We nearly left the pool to go elsewhere but the girls were so excited to go on the slide.  We decided to wait it out and went on the slide in the meantime.  The pool soon reopened which I very, very reluctantly took the girls into.  The girls managed to have a decent swim before we were once again evacuated from the pool which was proceeded by an announcement requesting that parents with babies and toddlers use swimming nappies.  The second polly waffle proved to be much harder to catch.  We took the girls into the deeper pool where we stayed for a little while before we decided we’d had enough and went home.

The girls enjoyed playing on the slip-n-slide for a while before Olivia’s favourite dinner of chicken nuggets and chips.  Jessica’s mum picked her up later that evening.  The girls had a ball.
